Holiday Apartment Alps

La Grande Terche is a very small traditional Savoyard village, a mixture of old farm buildings and tastefully designed apartment blocks set in a beautiful backdrop of mountains and stunning scenery. The village of La Grande Terche is at 940 metres and the telecabine rises to 1650 metres with further skiing up to 1850 metres.   The village has one or two restaurant and a bar that serve traditional Savoyarde food; one small grocery shop; a tobacconist and a launderette. Nightlife is as lively as you want it to be in the restaurants or bar and at the end of the evening your apartment is only 100 metres away. The nearby working village of St Jean D'Aulps is five minutes away by car and has a further selection of restaurants, bars, shops, a Huit-a-Huit supermarket and a doctor's surgery. You can also get to St Jean d'Aulps by navette bus during the day and if you go in the direction of Morzine for 2 km there is a larger 'Champion' supermarket, which is guaranteed to satisfy all your requirements.  There is a good web site with web cam of Grande Terche this is ‘www.saintjeandaulps.com.  This will show some of the skiing in Grande Terche with lots of pictures in the albums.

Les Gets  is 11 km. from La Grande Terche and is one of the oldest resorts in the Portes du Soleil circuit.  The village has enormous charm and boasts several good restaurants. There are good facilities for advanced and inter-mediate skiers, and the ski slopes from les Chavannes, which links up with Morzine, come right down to the village.  The many lifts operating from the centre of the village have been upgraded in the last twelve months and there is very little queuing. (We generally drive to Les Chavannes to avoid crowds in the peak season – map available).   Morzine/Avoriaz   ........is the principal resort of the Portes de Soleil. Morzine is a picturesque old mountain village with a lot of character. The River Dranse cuts a ravine through the centre of the town and there is a lively nightlife together with many restaurants and shops. Avoriaz is the mountain top, traffic free resort. In the two areas there are excellent ski facilities with a total lift capacity in excess of 38,000 per hour and links to Switzerland. In all there are some 650 kilometres of piste in the district providing skiing for every ability. (We generally drive to Ardent, via Montriond Lac, where ample parking is available and from where a new telecabine will take you to Lindarets, a short direct route into the heart of the ski area).
